S26 Builder’s Risk: From Disaster to Delay
When disaster strikes a construction project, project completion is often delayed. During that time, project stakeholders incur many different types of costs. Determining which costs are covered under an insurance policy is not straightforward, especially when contractors and insurers often use different language to describe certain costs. The period of time during which coverage is available is also determined by the policy language. The goal of this session is to unpack the complexities of delay-related insurance claims and present them in a manner that is easy to digest in an open forum. The panel discussion will focus on comprehension of key policy terms, and methodologies for calculating delay and related costs, as well as identifying common issues and mistakes made in measuring delay. The panel, presented from an insured’s perspective, will provide real-life examples of projects that experienced insured losses and how the outcomes were determined.
