Experienced construction expert joins Delta as Managing Director, strengthening the company’s construction and disputes capabilities in Canada and across North America
Delta Consulting Group has welcomed Philip M. Spinelli as a Managing Director in its Construction practice, marking further investment in the continued growth of the company’s construction advisory and expert services capabilities in Canada.
A mechanical engineer with more than 30 years of experience, Spinelli has advised on major construction and manufacturing projects and disputes throughout North America. He works with owners, contractors, design professionals and counsel on matters involving schedule delay, productivity, errors and omissions, disputed extra work, construction cost accounting and other complex commercial issues.
“Phil is an important addition to an already strong construction practice here at Delta,” said President Charlie Heckman. “He brings deep experience in the Canadian market, a track record on major projects and disputes and the kind of credibility that comes from doing this work at a high level for decades. I’m looking forward to the opportunities we can create for our people and impact we can make with our clients.”
Spinelli brings extensive experience on major capital projects across Canada, including engagements in Alberta, British Columbia, Halifax, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and Saskatchewan. These projects have spanned multiple industries, including chemical processing, education, infrastructure, mining, oil and gas processing, power generation and energy transmission. His assignments have involved schedule delay, quantum, productivity, cost overruns and other issues arising from large, complex capital projects.
His broader North American experience includes work on the World Trade Center redevelopment, Gillette Stadium, John F. Kennedy International Airport and the Dulles Metro Rail expansion, among other significant projects. He has authored expert reports, presented findings and provided testimony in numerous dispute resolution proceedings.
Spinelli’s arrival further strengthens the depth of expertise available to clients across Canada. He joins a multidisciplinary team of construction, disputes, investigations, valuation and financial analysis professionals supporting clients on matters throughout North America.
“Throughout my career working on major projects and disputes across North America, I accumulated significant experience in Canada and see tremendous opportunity for Delta in this market,” Spinelli said. “We have the people, the experience and the platform to do something significant. That opportunity to help build the next chapter of the practice while delivering excellent service to clients was a large part of what attracted me to Delta.”
Spinelli holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a concentration in business administration from Villanova University. He is a member of the Society of Construction Law and has held leadership and committee roles with AACE International, the American Bar Association Section of Litigation and the Construction Institute.
“Phil is someone I have known and respected for more than 20 years, and I am thrilled to have him at Delta,” said CEO Darin L. Buchalter. “We have ambitious plans for Canada, and this is a major step forward.”
