
Oliver Watts has 15 years of experience providing expert services involving quantum, financial, economic and valuation issues in contentious and non-contentious matters.
Oliver’s experience includes loss quantification and business valuation in shareholder and joint venture disputes, private equity investments, investment treaty claims, employment matters and claims involving lost profits and wasted costs. He has advised on matters spanning energy and power, oil and gas, mining, petrochemicals, real estate, tourism and hospitality, healthcare and life sciences, consumer products, financial services and other industries. His work includes complex disputes and valuations across Asia and internationally, with significant experience in matters before the Singapore High Court, Singapore International Arbitration Centre, Permanent Court of Arbitration, International Chamber of Commerce and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes.
A Chartered Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Oliver has been appointed as an expert more than 30 times in court proceedings and international arbitrations and has testified before courts and tribunals on multiple occasions.
- Pharmaceuticals, Indonesia, arbitration: Assessment of post-transaction losses suffered by state-linked investment funds in a major Indonesian pharmaceutical group following allegations of fraudulent accounting practices. Our work included valuations of the target company and a review of the allegedly fraudulent transactions and accounting entries. Testified
- Commercial development, Maldives, arbitration at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre: Assessment of losses flowing from an aborted commercial and residential development project.
- Commercial development, Vietnam, arbitration before the Permanent Court of Arbitration: Assessment of losses arising from the alleged expropriation of a majority stake in a joint venture involved in the construction of a residential and commercial development in HCMC.
- Healthcare, Singapore, arbitration at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre: valuation of an early-stage medical diagnostics company in the context of a shareholders’ dispute (Tribunal Appointed Expert). Testified.
- Medical goods, UK/ Malaysia, litigation before the Singapore High Court: Assessment of losses suffered by a UK based supplier of medical personal protective equipment, manufactured in Malaysia, arising from the termination of a supply agreement. Testified.
- Steel, Myanmar, arbitration at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre: Valuation of shares in a company producing colour-coated and galvanised flat steel products for the building and construction industry, in the context of a shareholders’ dispute.
- Luxury travel goods, Malaysia, arbitration at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre: Assessment of losses suffered by a Malaysian luxury goods distributor due to alleged breaches of a distribution agreement.
